Fashion Week On My Mind

When I was a fashion design major in college - my dream goal was to show my fashion design work in my hometown at the tents at NY Fashion Week. Well- my college self would not have guessed that it would not be for my fashion line but still pretty giddy that it would happen for my fashion artwork.
NY Fashion Week was this past week and it’s hard to believe how fast time flies and that it was so may moons ago I had the awesome experience of working with NYFW along with my awesome partners Papyrus. Papyrus was designing the fashion week event schedules and asked me to create the artwork for them.  These schedules were printed and handed out at all of the show venues. I partnered with Papyrus and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week on this for a few awesome show seasons that spanned over a few fabulous years. Some good times dressing up, running around to fashion shows and promoting my Papyrus cards at their event space set up in the Lincoln Center tents (which happen to be directly across the street from where my high school self grew up and was also daydreaming about being part of NY Fashion Week one day). Here’s a lil look at some of the schedules I worked on...

Something about September

Something about September screams FASHION to me.  Perhaps the infamous beyond heavy September issues of the fashion magazines that come out- which I sooooo look forward too drowning myself in with a large iced latte.  Or the wonderful shift in weather from summer to start of Fall where the fashion options are so much more groovier (boots- yay!!).   But one thing that always happens in September.... NY Fashion Week!
Hello NY Fashion Week.  So wonderful to have been part of this awesome event again.  As always- it starts with a sketch:

and once painted, turns into the spring/summer 2015 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) event schedule:
This is the trifold opened flat-
When the trifold is closed- here is our cover-
They were stacked in little stacks around the main lobby of the fashion week tents for the takin'.
The people of MBFW asked me to to do some artwork that could be used for posting the daily event schedule on their social media.  8 days, 8 paintings,  plus 1 bonus paining.  Here is a look- and I thought I would include the sketch as well- why not!?
Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

 Day 5

Day 6

Day 7

Day 8

This one was also posted on their social media just for fun!

Thank you to those that came by the Papyrus event space to say hello and allow me to personalize one of my new cards for you.
Here's a  peek at the cards I was signing.  They will be hitting stores soon- hold tight.

Oh- and I have to share this amazing mani.  Thank you to this fab fashionista who's nails and accessories stylishly coordinated with my glittery gem filled card.  Too fun!
So this season was all about head wraps for me.  Each outfit each day of fashion week was topped off with one.
Silk lipstick kisses on polka dots was my fave of the week.
Also- a big thank you to those that also made it to my event at the Columbus Circle Papyrus store, just down the street from the tents, where I got to personalize cards for you, chit chat, and eat pink sugar coated hummingbird shaped cookies made especially for the event.
In celebration of Fashion Week- the store brilliantly designed a fabulous window display where they created a dress based on the dress in one of my cards- it was fantastic to see- such a great surprise- thank you!!

Of course it wouldn't be fashion week with out a few shows!  And I think every show should end like this one- a dance train on the runway!
I was gifted another Fashion Police pin this week.
All was quiet on the E set there in the MBFW tents lobby.
Thank you Joan for appreciating the fun in fashion and reminding everyone it's ok to laugh at it too.

A Double Double This Weekend:

September has arrived- Which means NY Fashion Week is around the corner!
Are you in the city this weekend?  You have 2 chances to come out and say hello to me as Papyrus and I  celebrate Fashion Week
(Thank you to my friends at papyrus who printed up these lovely store posters in honor of the weekends events)

(And you just might spot this lovely pair of legs on a Mercedes Benz Fashion Week schedule this season- I'll be sure to post that here soon for you to see)

So here's the skinny:
On Saturday Sept 6th from 1-4pm I will be at the Papyrus store at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.  If you come on in and scoop up one of my cards I will be happy to personalize it for you!  Come on by!  This one is open to all.
And then on Sunday Sept 7th I will be at the Fashion Week tents at Lincoln Center at the Papyrus event space in the main lobby from 1-3pm- and as in seasons past, I will be personalizing my cards for you.  (please note- for those that have asked: the only way to this Sunday event is if you are there already as a guest attending a show that day.  So if are not- then please come on by Papyrus in Columbus Circle on Saturday instead- would love to meet you!)

Side note blast from the past:  have a look at past Fashion Week blog postings by clicking on NY Fashion Week over there under contents on the right side of the page.  and Enjoy!

Hello Lincoln Center!

Hello Lincoln Center!  So good to be home again for NY Fashion Week
fall/winter 2014, which just took place Feb 6-13.

Lets get right to it:
a look at the artwork that I painted to be used on the MBFW (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week) event schedule and press lanyards  (which Papyrus , as a MBFW sponsor, once again put together for the occasion)-

The schedule of events, for the taking at the MBFW tents-

It was all about painterly plum on the front side.
And on the back side we were feelin a lil sketchy-

heres a look at the original sketches before they landed on the schedule-

And our 3 middle girls from the schedule made it onto the lanyards.
A very fashionable accessory around Lincoln Center this week.

I didnt leave home without mine!
I was sure to pair it with black baby sequins on silky animal print cut out layered on netting, with nude sheath beneath.

On this day I was loving lace.

On this day I was all about the shiny black paillettes on - color of the moment- plum. Yum.

I BIG thank you to everyone that came by the signing at the Papyrus event space at the tents.  Its was lovely to meet you and personalize a Valentines Day card for you.  And how cool that you could address the envelope there, and Papyrus was happy to stamp it for you and mail it off for you anywhere in the world- they are the best!!
Send Style!

Thank you to my dear friend Melissa who shot the pix at the signing above.

Of course it wouldn't be fashion week if I didnt take in a few shows -always a fun place to snap some shots, and simply get inspired!!.

And as I had done for the past two show seasons, I once again had the opportunity to create the artwork for the VIP bags.

These are the VIP swag bags that were given to the lucky few behind the scenes.  These super ultra glossy babies were hard to find in the crowd- but alas- I spotted one!

I was very happy when Papyrus and MBFW asked if I would like to create a special series for them that would be released one at a time throughout fashion week on MBFWs social media.  There was a huge focus on instagram this fashion week season (be sure to follow me @bellapilarstudio), and here is a snapshot as it was posted by MBFW on their instagram page (@mbfashionweek) :

Here is a look at the total models backstage series.  And I thought I would show you the sketches too.  Enjoy-

And as another fashion week comes to an end... Boots, scarf, hat.... and i'm out.
